3. Will granite scratch or burn?
Granite is one of the hardest materials known to man. It can only be scratched by other granites or diamonds. In most cases granite will not burn. However, we recommend having a cutting board and trivet for hot plates.
4. Is it true that quartz surfaces won’t scratch or burn?
Quartz surfaces can scratch and burn. Quartz is composed of 93% natural quartz and 7% resin. Quartz is one of the hardest minerals on the face of the earth and is very difficult to scratch. The 7% resin that makes up the pigments and the epoxy that actually keeps the quartz together can burn. We recommend having a cutting board and trivet for hot plates.
5. Is it true that I cannot clean my natural stone with anything but soap & water?
It is recommended by the Marble Institute of America that you clean your natural stone product with anti-bacterial soap and water. There are natural stone cleaners in the market that you can buy, which has been approved by the Marble Institute. We feel like anti-bacterial soap and water is the best.
6. Are there different qualities of granite?
Yes, there are different qualities of granite. Timeless Stoneworks uses only first quality material. There are commercial grades that are used for building veneering and other purposes. For countertop polished stone, we use the very best on the market.
7. What makes one stone more expensive than another?
The price of natural stone is based on where it is quarried and what those quarries charge for it. Most natural stones are imported from other countries.
8. How do I get an estimate?
Email us at george@timelessstoneworks.com, give us a call and/or fax in information, including a drawing. We like to see a “rough” sketch of your project. Please be sure to send any contact information if we should have any questions.
9. What is included in an estimate from Timeless Stoneworks?
Our estimates are a “turn-key” price based on your specific needs. It includes fabrication, installation and sales tax (where applicable). Typically fixtures (sink & faucets) are not included. We do sell sinks, if interested, at an additional cost.
10. Can I lay out my slabs?
Absolutely! We recommend that you do so, especially if you have chosen an exotic stone. You can choose where you would like your tops to be cut from out of the slab.
11 .Where can I go to choose my natural stone?
Timeless Stoneworks stocks over 1000 slabs. These slabs are all handpicked by us and purchased in quantity so we may pass the savings on to the customer. If our Carver warehouse is too far for you to travel, we can send you to a local wholesaler in your area. These warehouses are less personal; however, there are many slabs to choose from.
12. How do I support overhang?
Granite can support itself as long a 2/3’s of the stone is on the cabinet. For example, for most countertops as long as 24” is on the cabinet an additional 12” could overhang without support. The type of material may determine overhang as some granites are stronger than others.
13. Will my kitchen have a seam?
Typically most kitchen applications and some bath applications will have a seam. The average size of the slabs are 114” x 66”, some are smaller and some are larger. Our seams are butted tight together with an epoxy color filler and are smooth to the touch on the surface. Come visit our showroom for some examples of seams in a kitchen.
